A Game of Princes and Pirates, another short work, investigates the strain of responsibility on familial bonds. Crown Prince Hadrian and his younger brother, Morgan, have grown up inseparably. This is an excerpt of a recent historical project, “The Stories that Shape History: The Formation of the Pirate Myth in A General History of the Pyrates”. The essay is published in the Spring 2024 Volume of The James Blair Historical Review, a competitive undergraduate peer-reviewed journal which features historical scholarship from across the United States. My argument draws on contemporary and eighteenth century sources to understand the modern pirate archetype. Read it here.
